There’s nothing worse than busy and stressful mornings. Instead of enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee with your loved ones, you’re racing around the house with one eye on the clock.

Sound familiar? If so, I want to let you in on a secret.

The key to an easy morning lies in what you do the night before. Take a few minutes to focus on productivity (instead of Netflix) and you’ll be rewarded with a stress free, easy morning.

Here are eight productive things you can do tonight to set yourself up for success tomorrow.

How Do You Stay Productive At Night?

Before we dive in, I know you’re probably wondering how to be productive at night. After all, you’re likely tired and getting things done is the last thing on your mind!

It’s not always easy but one thing that really helps is following an evening routine. When you do the same things every night, it becomes a habit and you’re productive without even realising it.

Keep it simple and start small. Choose one thing off this list and do it every day until it starts to feel easy. Then add something else and repeat. You’ll find being productive at night isn’t as hard as you may have thought.

8 Productive Things To Do At Night Before Bed

1. Prepare your outfit for the next day

Deciding what to wear for work in the morning can be stressful, especially when you’re racing the clock. You want to look put together but inevitably, the blouse you want is in the wash and your trousers are wrinkled.

It can leave you feeling frazzled, all before your first cup of coffee—so why not do it the night before?

Choose an outfit, try it on, and then wash or iron any missing pieces. Hang it in your closet so it’s ready to go first thing and you’ll feel ready to conquer the day!

2. Take care of your skin

You can’t be productive if you don’t take care of yourself, so why not start with your skin?

Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, or even do a face mask if you’re feeling fancy! You’ll feel fresh-faced in the morning and ready to tackle whatever the day throws your way.

3. Plan the next day

We all have goals and projects that we’re working towards, both personal and professional.

If you want to achieve them, one of the most productive things you can do each night is to plan the next day. Review your deadlines and priorities, and ask yourself what needs to get done tomorrow.

Do this every night and you’ll thank yourself in the morning when you’re relaxing over breakfast. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, you’re calm and in control, because you know exactly what needs to be done.

The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities. - Stephen Covey

4. Journal to clear your mind

Work, home, family … sometimes we can’t help but feel stressed and overwhelmed by our responsibilities.

This is why I recommend keeping a journal. It makes you more productive because it’s an outlet for your feelings. Get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper, so you have space in your mind for more important things.

Plus journaling reduces worry and stress, which means you’ll sleep better and feel ready to tackle the day in the morning.

5. What to cook, what not to cook?

How much time do you spend each day stressing about feeding your family?

If it’s longer than you’d like, why not take a few minutes to plan meals the night before? Write a quick menu or you can even prepare food ahead of time. Your future self will thank you!

6. Do an evening reset

If you want an easy morning, one of the best things you can do is an evening reset.

Take 15 minutes to put your house back in order:

  • load the dishwasher and wipe down the kitchen counters
  • collect toys and clothes from around the house and put them back where they belong
  • give the floors a quick clean (you don’t have to vacuum the entire house, just spot clean problem areas)

Don’t worry about getting everything done, just do the best you can in a short time. You might be surprised by how much you can get done if you’re really focused.

7. Pack your bags

A super simple productivity tip is to always pack your bags the night before.

Your handbag, your gym bag, your children’s school bags … make sure you have everything you need for the next day ready to go. It will eliminate morning stress—no more running around, looking for shoes and books at the last minute.

8. Read a good book

Did you know that taking a few minutes to read a good book can actually help you get more done?

It might sound counterproductive but taking time to relax and recharge will actually help you get more done in the long run. By the end of the day, your mind is exhausted and it deserves to escape into the pages of a good story!

Apart from that, reading at night is a great way to relax your racing mind, improve your knowledge, boost your creativity, and better your concentration.
